Today I am sharing my involtini di carne or steak rolls recipe. I am a huge fan of steak, and I find that making this way is just as easy as the traditional way. I posted this recipe over on my Instagram a few weeks ago and received loads of messages asking me for the recipe. It’s deceptively simple and easy, takes about 20 minutes to prep and tastes and looks amazing. I particularly like making this when we are having company. It just looks so good and impressive, and it makes guests think I was slaving away for hours.
You will need to pound the meat so that it’s tender and thin. You cannot skip this step as it will not cook as well, plus rolling up a thick steak is not a fun task.
For this recipe I have used Gouda, but it would taste amazing with other cheeses such as smoked applewood cheddar or provolone. I am a huge fan of cheese and beef together, and this along with my Cheese Stuffed Meatballs are probably some of my favourite dishes to make.
The spice on this is quite mild, but you should adjust the spice to your choosing, I understand that not everyone likes chilli.
You can serve it in a variety of ways. It is wonderful with a nice salad or even with some pasta. It also makes for a great little side at a dinner party; just make the slices thinner.
For a little extra pizza you could add some grated parmesan into the sauce, or even mix in some blended roasted peppers.
Involtini Di Carne - Steak Rolls
- 2 Beef Steaks
- 1/4 Red Bell Pepper Thinly Sliced
- 2 Slices of Gouda Cheese
- 1 Cup Baby Spinach Leaves
- 1 tsp Crushed Chilli Flakes
- 1/2 Cup Fresh Parsley Minced
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- Preheat the oven at 180degrees.
- Pound the near until it’s thin, about the thickness of a £1 coin.
- Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- On one side add a layer of spinach, a layer of peppers and one slice of the cheese. Season it with the chilli flakes and minced parsley.
- Roll the steaks up and tuck in the ends. Use toothpicks to hold the steaks closed.
- Heat up some olive oil and sear the meat on all sides.
- Pour your sauce into a baking dish and add the meat. The sauce should cover 2/3 of the meat.
- Cook in the oven for around 10-15 mins or less, depending on how you like your meat cooked.
- Let it rest for 5 minutes.
- Slice at an angle and serve.
