Gousto Box Review

Recipe kits are something that is starting to become more and more popular, it seems like there are new companies cropping up everywhere. I am still pretty new to them but I have recently tried my first one and decided to write a review on it.

The recipe kit I am reviewing today is from a company called Gousto.

Before I delve into the review let me just take a second to explain what Gousto is, in case you haven’t heard about it yet. Gousto is basically a company that will send you fresh ingredients and step by step recipes so that you can have a freshly cooked meal. The boxes retail at £27.50 for 2 meals for 2 and include exact measurements and step by step instructions for each dish. They recipes seem to change every week or so, which means you get to try out different things each time.

Choosing the recipes was really easy, the website is simple to use and each dish is accompanied by a picture and a full list of ingredients. One thing that I love is that there is something for everyone. Having a full list of ingredients available for each dish means that not only are there plenty of options for both vegetarians as well as peceterians, there were also a variety of Halal friendly recipes, although it would have been nice to have a Halal meat option.

After a bit of browsing, both me and my (extremely picky) husband decided on 2 meals:

Harissa Halloumi Sandwich & Carrot Slaw

Sea Bass On Smoky Chorizo Chowder (we don’t eat pork, so we substituted the chorizo with some “najma turkey chorizo“…yay for separate packaging!!)

The box arrived while I was at work; but it is packed with ice packs so the food can be kept fresh for 24 hours so i was not worried. By the time I got home in the evening everything was still fresh and cold. Everything has a use by date and because it wasn’t until a few days after I received it, I didn’t feel rushed to make everything straight away.

They also included a lovely wooden spoon, which I think is such a cute idea. And I must say it feels like a good quality spoon too.

Both meals were extremely easy to make and I was pleasantly surprised at not only how we they tasted, but also how they resembled the picture on the recipe card so much. I love that.

The recipe cards are easy to follow and all ingredients are highlighted which makes the whole process even easier, as just by skim reading it you would be able to see if you missed any ingredients.

Would I order again?
Overall I was pleasantly surprised and I would definitely use them again, but not every week as I like to experiment and make up recipes as I go along, the fact that they don’t have halal options would also limit on my possible choices…also food shopping is one of my favourite things to do. However I like the option of receiving everything measured and being able to have a great meal without leaving the comfort of my home or worrying about having enough of something. If you work long hours or are undecided about what to make for dinner, then Gousto boxes can definitely improve your evenings.

You can order your Gousto recipe kit over on: and you can also use this code for £20 off your first 2 boxes “TORNADO

to send you an email. I’ve got some creative ideas for your
blog you might be interested in hearing. Either way, great site and I look forward to seeing it grow over time.
