This is my first “parenting” post; I’m not even sure if parenting is the right word as I’m still finding my way. Either way as you may know baby Tahani is now almost 4 months old and I just thought I’d do a post highlighting the 5 things I found to be life savers during this time.
When I was pregnant all the lists I saw were the same: nappies, wipes, muslins, car seat etc…Now this list will not be like that; this will basically be a list of things that helped ME make the first three months a little easier. I need to say that all opinions and all products were purchased by us.
So here we go…
If you are breastfeeding you will spend a lot of time sitting down with your boob out. Especially in the first few weeks Breastfeeding can take HOURS as your milk supply is establishing. A travel mug basically minimises the risk of spilling hot tea over your precious baby.
In Ear Thermometer:
When Tahani was born we had a normal thermometer and I though “this will do”. I was wrong. There is no easy way to taking a crying or sleeping baby’s temperature using a normal thermometer. It’s basically impossible. You really don’t need a fancy one as long as it does the job properly. We got ours on Amazon as we needed it ASAP and have prime.
Glow in the dark dummies:
Let me set the scene for you. It’s night, baby starts fussing and you need to get up to make a bottle. You have about 60 seconds before the fussing turns into crying. You start to blindly feel around for the dummy without turning on the main light (you don’t wanna wake baby up and stimulate them at this time). You can’t find it and now you have a crying baby and need to turn on the lights. This whole shebang can be easily avoided by the magic that is a glow in the dark dummy. The ones we use are from Mam. (Remember, it is recommended to change the dummies every 4 weeks)
When she was about 2 weeks old Tahani got her first cold and it was heartbreaking to hear her little nose make noises and knowing that she can’t blow it. In comes the nose aspirator which basically lets you suck the gunk out and free her airway. Yes it sounds absolutely disgusting, but there is a filter in the front which means no gunk will actually touch your mouth. The one that we use is by SnuffleBabe, but I know there are other brands that make them too.
Powder Formula Dispenser:
I initially bought this to use when out and about, then I started using it for the night feed and found it a godsend. Counting formula scoops when you’re half asleep with a hungry baby is seriously not practical. I lost count of how many times I had to throw away the bottle I was making and start again. The one we have is by Munchkin and I really recommend it.
So that’s it. That’s the 5 items that made my life as a new mum a little easier during the first 3 months. As Tahani grows I plan to do more lists of must have items for different stages.
Do you use any of the items mentioned? Do you want to recommend me something else? Let me know in the comments section or tweet me!
